Credit for Acquired Proficiency ("CAP Credit") in Languages, Literatures & Cultures

If the first Languages, Literatures & Cultures course in which a student enrolls is above 111 in the regular sequence (112, 115, 116 or above), he or she is eligible for advanced placement credit. The student must apply for this credit either in the department office in Stevenson 114 or in class.

Credit toward graduation for previously acquired language proficiency will be granted upon completion at Illinois State University of 3 to 4 hours of coursework (excluding Independent Study) with the grade of "C" or better. None of the required hours may be taken under the CT/NC option. Students beginning at the 112-level and fulfilling the above requirements will be granted 4 hours. Students beginning at the 115-level or above and fulfilling the above requirements will be granted 8 hours of credit. No more than 8 hours of CAP credit can be awarded.

CAP credit can be applied to University Studies Group 1 requirements.
